Aberdeen is buzzing with excitement as we prepare for one of Scotland’s most spectacular maritime events, and today Aberdeen Laundry Services had the distinct honour of being part of something truly special.

An Invitation to Honor Our Armed Forces

Our Group HR & Finance Manager, Lynne Taylor, and Group Marketing & Stakeholder Communications Manager, Steven Burnett, were privileged to accept an invitation from the Highland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for a tour of HMS Mersey, currently moored in Aberdeen’s harbour. The ship’s presence in our city serves as a proud herald for the upcoming Tall Ships Race 2025, but more importantly, it represents the dedication and sacrifice of those who keep us safe.

As we stepped aboard HMS Mersey, we were greeted by an impressive display of masts and flags – a fitting welcome that immediately conveyed the professionalism and pride of our Royal Navy. The tour provided us with an incredible opportunity to witness first-hand the exceptional work of our Full Time & Reserve Forces and understand their vital role in national security.

Our Commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

Aberdeen Laundry Services is proud to be a partner of the Armed Forces Covenant, a commitment that reflects our values and our respect for those who serve. This covenant represents much more than words on paper – it’s a promise by our nation to ensure that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, along with their families, are treated fairly and never disadvantaged when accessing public and commercial services.

The Armed Forces Covenant exists to recognise the unique sacrifices made by service members and their families. It ensures they receive fair treatment and support across all aspects of life, including healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. As a business deeply rooted in the Aberdeen community, we understand that this covenant represents our collective moral obligation to support those who dedicate their lives to protecting ours.

The Tall Ships Race 2025: Aberdeen’s Maritime Celebration

The timing of our HMS Mersey visit couldn’t be more perfect, as Aberdeen prepares to host the Tall Ships Race from July 19-22, 2025. This incredible event will be Scotland’s biggest celebration in 2025, expecting to attract at least 400,000 visitors to our city over the four-day festival.

Aberdeen has the unique distinction of being the only UK host port for the Tall Ships Races, Europe’s largest free family festival. The transformation is already underway – the quayside in Port of Aberdeen’s North Harbour is being converted into a world-class event space. Visitors will be treated to a spectacular forest of masts as more than 50 vessels from across the globe berth here, ready to welcome families and maritime enthusiasts aboard.

A City Transformed

The quaysides will come alive with an extraordinary range of attractions. From artisanal food and craft stalls to captivating street performers, there’s something for everyone during the Tall Ships Races. This magnificent event has been made possible through the collaborative efforts of Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen Inspired, and Port of Aberdeen.

The celebration extends beyond the harbour too. Venues across Aberdeen’s city centre will offer exhibitions, free activities, art installations, and environmental conservation projects, with many more exciting events and attractions still to be announced.

Four Days of Maritime Magic

The extravaganza begins on July 19 with the fleet’s grand arrival and opening ceremony. The following day, our city centre will buzz with energy as more than 1,500 sailors join the international crew parade, featuring live music, dance, and theatre performances that will bring the streets to life.

The grand finale comes on July 22 when the ships set sail for Kristiansand, Norway. This departure will be marked by a spectacular parade of sail along the beach esplanade – a sight that promises to be both moving and unforgettable.

Economic Impact and Community Spirit

The knock-on business effect is already becoming clear, particularly for Aberdeen’s hospitality industry. As we walked through the city today, the excitement was palpable. Aberdeen feels vibrant and buzzing with anticipation for the weekend ahead, and we’re proud to be part of a community that comes together to celebrate both our maritime heritage and our ongoing commitment to those who serve.

Looking Forward

Our visit to HMS Mersey today reinforced why Aberdeen Laundry Services is proud to support the Armed Forces Covenant. Witnessing the dedication of our Reserve Forces and understanding their crucial role in keeping us safe has strengthened our resolve to continue supporting service members and their families.

As we look ahead to the Tall Ships Race 2025, we’re excited to see our city shine on the international stage. This event represents everything that makes Aberdeen special – our maritime heritage, our community spirit, and our commitment to creating memorable experiences for visitors from around the world.

Aberdeen Laundry Services is honored to be part of this remarkable celebration and to continue our partnership with the Armed Forces Covenant. Together, we’re building a stronger, more supportive community for all who call Aberdeen home.
